Notes: | Model B-35, Turbine steam engine mounted on horizontal style boiler, built approx. 1925-1940. The 3rd most plentiful of the cast iron Empire toy steam engines despite a 15 year production period...they come up occasionally on eBay, but not often. Solid cast iron base, brass engine components, nickeled brass boiler and tinned turbine fan. Most examples have a 1/4 mesh chicken wire over the turbine, mine seems to have lost it in its travels. An early turbine example when turbines were fairly rare for the toy steam world. Rivals early Jensens for robustness, though it would take Jensen about 75 years more to come up with their model 95G turbine introduced in 1995. Empire got their early but Jensen wins in the looks and functionality dept. Heated electrically. |
