1967 Mamod SE1, probably one of the last to be made. Union bolt steam pipe fixing and superheated, driving a piston with oil felt pad lubricator engine block. Complete and boxed. Replaced by the SE1a in the same year.
This version of the ubiquitous SE1 appeared in 1946 and was basically the same as the pre-war SE1, but for a locomotive style chimney. This engine has been completely refurbished to a high degree with replacement engine frame/cylinder and decal.
Early, pre-war Mamod SE1. Painted steam line (soldered to engine frame instead of union nut), brass disc crank, no exhaust to chimney, and dark Hobbies red paint on underside.
This SE1 dates from c1965 and exhibits the classic period details, such as brass eyelet type engine frame rivets and SE3 type crank. The engine has been steamed a few times and is presented in near mint condition. It comes complete with box and inner packaging.
This SE1 dates from c1958 and exhibits a lot of the new features that Malins were including in their engines of this period; such as the wider firebox and the wooden handled brass soldered vapourising spirit lamp. It also has the wire type boiler securing band and SE3 type crank. The engine is presented in original, playworn condition throughout.
This engine was completely refurbished in March 2010 and is an example of a transitional stationary, because it sports both the old wick type lamp and base but coupled with a new 1958 firebox and boiler band. The SE1 was made in this style for probably no more than 6 months or so.
Very early post-war SE1 exhibiting the short-lived base-mounted chimney. Presented in entirely original condition. The SE1 soon adopted a loco-style chimney as 1946 progressed.
